Xbox Game Pass will get a ton of Activision-Blizzard games after its acquisition

Microsoft broke everyone’s brains this morning by announcing that it would buy Activision-Blizzard for $68.7 billion. The move is unprecedented for a number of reasons, but once shut down, it will mean a number of franchises including Call of Duty, Diablo, Overwatch, and World of Warcraft will be owned by Xbox. As such, Xbox chief Phil Spencer revealed today that many of the games associated with these properties will eventually come to Xbox Game Pass in due course.

Described on the Xbox This Morning website that announced the deal, Spencer said Xbox Game Pass will get an injection of titles from Activision and Blizzard down the road. “At closing, we’ll be offering as many Activision Blizzard games as possible in Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, both new titles and games from Activision Blizzard’s incredible catalog,” Spencer said. “We also announced today that Game Pass now has over 25 million subscribers. As always, we look forward to continuing to add more value and more great games to Game Pass.

As Spencer points out, these new titles in question won’t be coming to Xbox Game Pass until Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision-Blizzard is official. When it comes to a date for that to happen, well, we currently don’t know. At this point, Microsoft has only said the deal is expected to close in the company’s 2023 fiscal year. To better describe when it starts, FY2023 for Microsoft will begin on April 1, 2022, and then end on March 31, 2023. So anytime between those dates, we could start to see Xbox Game Pass receiving these new Activision-Blizzard titles. We’ll keep you updated on this situation as we move forward here at
