Game pass

PS Now looks even more like Game Pass with its first launch, Shadow Warrior 3

PlayStation is closing in on its own Xbox Game Pass equivalent with its first-ever launch title PS Now.

A new post on the PlayStation Blog reveals that Shadow Warrior 3 will be available for free through the game streaming and download service on March 1, when it will also be available to purchase through more traditional means. That said, pre-ordering the game from the PlayStation Store will also unlock Shadow Warrior (2013) and Shadow Warrior 2, which you won’t get just by playing through PlayStation Now.

It’s a little surprising that Sony is taking this step for PlayStation Now, given all the rumors that have been circulating for months about its own large-scale response to Xbox Game Pass and the apparent disappearance of PS Now subscription cards from retailers. It may be a soft launch and indication of Sony’s plans for its new offering, or it may be its own thing entirely. Either way, PlayStation Now subscribers don’t have to wait to see what’s next to start reaping the benefits.

Shadow Warrior 3 was previously supposed to arrive in 2021, but developer Flying Wild Hog postponed its arrival in October to give him some more time to “sharpen his blades”. They already looked pretty neat considering all the demon dismemberment, but we’ll take them at their word.

It’s an exciting time to be a PlayStation fan, as Sony also recently gave the first look at its new and improved PSVR2 headsetwhose design was inspired by the PS5 console itself.
