Today’s surprise announcement at Tokyo Game Show 2021 that Scarlet Nexus would come to Xbox Game Pass was definitely welcome. It’s one of the best JRPGs of the year and it looks like it may have been overlooked by many potential fans due to some of the other games released around it.
Hopefully now that it’s on Game Pass subscribers won’t miss it anymore as it brings a lot to the table and is definitely worth it, especially for those looking for a game on Xbox to fill in the gaps left by some PlayStation exclusives like Persona 5 and Final Fantasy 7 remake.
The high concept plot of Scarlet Nexus
Unfortunately, it seems that Scarlet Nexus lost a lot of people with his seemingly convoluted plot that was displayed in his marketing. Sometimes at the expense of the game, Scarlet Nexus is a bit difficult to explain due to its mix of narrative and game genres. The game coined the term “brain punk” which was used in its marketing which, prior to the game’s use, was not an established genre, which made it difficult for many game fans to know what it was. acted before making a purchase.
With Game Pass, however, subscribers don’t necessarily need to “get” it before trying the game. The $ 60 price tag that Scarlet Nexus had upon its release was somewhat of a hindrance for potential fans to jump into its world, but now that it’s free for subscribers, they’ll be able to try out the game without too much worry.
If a subscriber decides to donate Scarlet Nexus luckily, they’ll probably find out how interesting the game is. While the marketer has done a useful job in trying to sell the title, Scarlet Nexus‘the plot is best experienced firsthand. The many twists and turns in the narrative are potentially confusing to try to explain to those who don’t know it, but end up making a lot of sense in the context of the game itself. Additionally, its story is told through a dual narrative that allows players to see both sides of one of the core conflicts of the entire game. While it may be difficult to explain, it certainly is the one of the game’s most interesting stories this year and Game Pass subscribers can try it out at no additional cost.
Support for JRPGs on Xbox platforms
While it certainly fluctuates from year to year, it looks like the Xbox has a JRPG issue. Many JRPG titles don’t sell as well on Microsoft consoles compared to their PlayStation sales, forcing some studios to go exclusively to Sony for release. As mentioned above, Xbox is missing some of the greatest versions of JRPGs from the last generation of consoles with titles like Persona 5/Persona 5 Royal and Final Fantasy 7 remake completely jump the platform. While it may not be held in as high regard as these two titles, Scarlet Nexus is one of the best JRPGs of this year and is worth a try, although it is far from the genre’s traditional entries in terms of gameplay.
While not from a long established IP, Scarlet Nexus stands confidently next to the likes of Persona 5 and FF7 Remake, but unlike the last two games, is available to be played on Xbox consoles. This should be a no-brainer for JRPG fans who sign up for Game Pass to give it a try. Scarlet Nexus. Not only will they be able to play one of the best JRPGs of 2021, but, if enough people are playing it, they could also send a message to Microsoft and the JRPG publishers that there is a demand for the genre on Xbox platforms.
Scarlet Nexus is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X / S.
