Copa Airlines and Panama participate in the IATA Travel Pass trial

The Government of the Republic of Panama and Copa Airlines are participating in the International Air Transport Association (IATA) IATA Travel Pass trial.

IATA Travel Pass is a digital platform for passengers to help them store and manage their verified certifications for Covid-19 tests or vaccines.

The initiative aims to address the challenges governments face in reopening borders safely and confidently without quarantine.

The IATA Travel Pass mobile app integrates a global registry of health requirements, a global registry of testing / vaccination centers, a laboratory app and a contactless travel app to digitally manage travel documents.

It is expected to be available in iOS and Android stores by March 2021.

Nick Careen, Senior Vice President of Passenger, Cargo and Airport Security, IATA said: “The IATA Travel Pass is growing. This trial, the first in the Americas, will provide valuable information and feedback to improve the Travel Pass program.

“This is an important step in enabling international travel during the pandemic, giving people confidence that they meet all governments’ entry requirements for Covid-19. We are proud to be working with Copa Airlines and the Government of Panama on this vital trial. ”

The partnership with IATA makes Panama and Copa Airlines the first government and the first airline in the Americas, respectively, to test the IATA Travel Pass.

Some flights from the Copa Americas hub in Panama City will participate in the initial test phase, which is expected to begin in March.

Copa Airlines passengers will use the app to create a ‘digital passport’, which will help them travel easily while complying with all government requirements for Covid-19.
