Why Game Pass Subscribers Shouldn’t Ignore AI: The Somnium Files

By Game pass No Comments

Over the past few years, Xbox has done a great job bringing Japanese titles to its Game Pass service and crushing the idea that there are no Japanese games available on Xbox platforms. While most of these inclusions come from major studios like Square Enix and Capcom, a surprising addition to Xbox Game Pass has been the surprise release of IA: The Somnium files, a detective adventure game from Danganronpa developer Spike Chunsoft. IA: The Somnium files Not only did it join the service earlier this week as a surprise announcement during the Microsoft Tokyo Game Show 2021 showcase, but it also marked the game’s debut on Xbox platforms.

The only downside to IA: The Somnium files now is the time to join Xbox Game Pass. The game joins the service on the same day as AAA games such as Marvel Avengers and Scarlet Nexus, and just before the storm of new AAA releases like Back 4 Blood, Forza Horizon 5, and Halo: infinite. Even among these major titles, IA: The Somnium files should be played by Xbox Game Pass subscribers because it is one of the most unique and addicting sleuth games in the latest generation of consoles.

RELATED: 2021 Booms As A Great Year For Detective Games

The startling, non-linear mystery of AI

AI-The-Somnium-Files-Xbox-Game-Pass-Don't-Skip

From the start, IA: The Somnium filesThe story immediately intrigues by focusing on a detective named Kaname Date, who is investigating a serial murder case involving a killer who removed the left eyes of his victims before killing them. When he arrives, he finds the daughter of the latest victim, Mizuki, traumatized by witnessing her mother’s murder. He then uses a device called Somnium to travel inside his brain and recount the moments leading up to his mother’s death. Throughout this, Date is accompanied by Aiba, the AI implemented in his cybernetic eye. As the game continues, it focuses on the two as they investigate the ongoing murders while traveling the minds of other victims and suspects attached to the case.

What really sets the game apart from other visual novels / adventure games is that most of the story is built in a non-linear fashion, with an intricate, heavily branched flowchart forcing the player to pursue what initially seems be dead ends in the hope of getting more clues regarding the case. One of the reasons IA: The Somnium filescomplex story works so well because it is written and directed by Kotaro Uchikoshi, who is the creator of the beloved Zero escape trilogy composed of 999: 9 hours, 9 people, 9 doors, The last reward of virtue, and Zero time dilemma. Anyone familiar with Uchikoshi’s works knows that the writer is still capable of making often complex stories that are very easy to digest thanks to his wonderful character writing, with IA: The Somnium files being one of his best work to date in this regard.

The unique and complex characters of AI

AI-The-Somnium-Files-Screenshot-Xbox-Game-Pass-Don't-Skip

Another reason IA: The Somnium files worth the time of Xbox Game Pass subscribers is its incredible characters, including its two protagonists, Date and Aiba. Given Aiba’s nature as an artificial intelligence developed in Date’s cybernetic eye, it would be safe to assume that her character is nothing more than a JARVIS-like robotic voice guiding Date through her investigations. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth, as his personality is more often compared to Halo‘s Cortana, acting as Date’s true companion and often providing plenty of banter when questioning suspects and investigating crime scenes. Date and Aiba’s relationship is ultimately the heart and soul of IA: The Somnium files, as the two develop a strong bond throughout the game.

Both of these protagonists are supported by a plethora of wonderful side characters such as the aforementioned Mizuki, who ends up sharing a sibling bond with Date after the two start out on bad terms. There’s Iris Sagan, also known as A-Set, an internet streamer who gets involved in the affair alongside her friend / fanboy Ota. The game’s approach to character-centric storytelling is similar to titles like Psychonauts, as it initially features characters who seem to have very little to offer in terms of strong characterization and memorization, but very quickly the player gains a solid understanding of the trauma and complexity of the cast. In the end, the game manages to expand its cast so much that it ends up being comparable to even the best castings in the As Lawyer franchise.

These are just a few of the reasons Xbox Game Pass members shouldn’t miss out. IA: The Somnium files now that he’s on the service. It’s also worth mentioning that in Spring 2022, Spike Chunsoft will also release IA: The Somnium Files – The Nirvana Initiative, a complete sequel to the original written by Kotaro Uchikoshi. The sequel follows a new protagonist and takes place more than six years after the events of the original, but it’s probably best if newcomers aren’t too interested in it to avoid spoilers for the original game.

IA: The Somnium files is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.

By Game pass No Comments
Reading time: 5 minutes

Xbox fans, get on!

We are very happy to announce the release of Astria Ascendant, a JRPG published by Dear Villagers, available today for Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S and with Xbox Game Pass. The Franco-Canadian studio Artisan Studios has developed Astria Ascendant in collaboration with famous and talented Japanese designers, whose names you may be familiar with.

Here are five reasons to check out this new turn-based JRPG. Let’s get started!

A rich and mature history supported by a sumptuous score

In a world of looming chaos, eight heroes of fate are chosen. They become demigods and are doomed to die holding the fate of the world in their hands. The gripping story is written by the great Kazushige Nojima, known for his work on the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series. His wish was to offer a mature and intriguing story, emphasizing the complex relationships between people and their choices regarding their duty.

“Each hero has their own perspective, but it’s the relationships they form with each other that really bring the story to life,” said Julien Bourgeois, game director at Artisan Studio.

The fate of Astria Ascendant characters is supported by a meaningful soundtrack written by Hitoshi Sakimoto, known for the Chronicles of Valkyria series, Final Fantasy XII, Vagabond story, and many more. The music beautifully supports their adventures and plunges players into the heart of their destiny, dealing with their fears and sacrifices.

“My music supports Astria Ascendant characters to help players understand them. (…) This means that my music must invite players to have confidence in the potential of people, ”said Hitoshi Sakimoto in reference to his musical contribution to the game.

Astria Ascendant

A richly imagined and hand-drawn 2D environment

In Astria Ascendant, you explore the world of Orcanon, a richly imagined and fully animated 2D landscape, and travel through five cities with a wide variety of inhabitants. If you like the artistic style of Astria Ascendant, know that the backgrounds and beautiful animations are hand drawn and created by Akihiko Yoshida and Hideo Minaba’s CyDesignation studio himself!

There are 25 dungeons to roam dotted with monsters, called Noises, and for those who like to think, you’ll have to solve environmental puzzles using your powers wisely. A dynamic weather system will punctuate your exploration with sunny and rainy moments, but also with snowstorms and sandstorms.

Astria Ascendant

An incredible cast of unforgettable characters

In Astria Ascendant, you control the 333rd Demigods unit investigating the mysterious events that threaten the Harmony. Demigods are not immortal and have a short lifespan since they have accepted their duty and fate.

It’s a diverse team of eight heroes ranging in age from 13 to 63 and with completely different backgrounds, aspirations and personalities. From Meryos to Arktans, including Awisis and Zefts, you’ll assemble a team of characters from various fantastic races and a vast arsenal of skills.

Extensive customization

The unique employment system in Astria Ascendant offers a lot of customization by allowing each demigod to develop their individual skills. As you level up you will unlock up to three jobs in addition to your base work for each demigod and as you battle the Noises your demigod team will level up and earn points. competence (SP).

Astria Ascendant

These skill points can be spent in each character’s skill tree to unlock new skills, passive abilities, and stat upgrades. So, the different jobs that you unlock have skills that you can customize through an ascension tree that makes each part unique. You will have to choose wisely!

An innovative and rich turn-based combat system

Astria Ascendant offers rewarding and innovative turn-based combat. In addition to the more traditional turn-based combat features, you will have to deal with new mechanics. You can collect legendary beasts and summon them into battle and use powerful moves called Cosmo Breaks to give your team the edge. But that’s not all!

Successfully hitting an enemy’s weakness will earn you Focus Points, which can be used to improve your abilities and make them more effective. Your actions can however backfire and can create a focus point deficit by hitting enemies’ resistances, so your challenge is to analyze and know the characteristics of each monster to fight them in the best possible way.

Astria Ascendant

If you are thirsty for battle, you can accept the powerful monster hunts that the inhabitants of the Orcanon ask you or find the Arena. Prepare your arsenal and be ready to fight waves of increasingly powerful enemies!

Astria Ascendant is a gorgeous, hand-drawn turn-based JRPG developed with the help of genre veterans, and it’s available to play today for Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S and with Xbox Game Pass.

Try ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ on Xbox Game Pass today? What you should know

By Game pass No Comments

Today, Marvel’s Avengers is making the jump to Xbox Game Pass now that its one-year contract with Sony has expired, opening the game to a new collection of players who may have spent it so far.

I maintain that there are a lot of good things about Avengers and definitely worth playing for free. Since I’ve been around 300 hours of gaming in the last year or so, I have a few notes on what you’ll experience that you should know upon entering.

The countryside – The base Avengers campaign is surprisingly good. It’s not very long, maybe 6-8 hours depending on how much you explore, but it chronicles Kamala’s journey while still allowing you to play with all of the original team members, Hulk, Cap, Iron Man, Black Widow and Thor. Don’t expect the rest of the game to be like this, as you won’t really get many scripted campaign missions like this anymore. You can, however, replay the campaign later with any hero if you wish, which was added after launch.

Kate Bishop and Hawkeye campaigns – These are the first two characters added to the game that arrive with their own little stories much shorter than the base campaign, perhaps only 90 minutes to two hours. You don’t need to have a certain level to play them because you will start with Kate or Clint at level 1 and go from there.

Wakanda Extension – The same is true for the big Wakanda expansion, where you don’t need to be a specific level to take it on. You don’t even have to do the Kate or Clint campaigns first. You will receive Black Panther at level 1 and you can upgrade it from there as you play. Even though this expansion is larger than the last two, with Wakanda being an entirely new area, it is not much longer. Overall, Crystal Dynamics says you should get 20-25 hours on campaign content. And the three things, the Kate, Clint, and Black Panther campaigns, are all free.

Character level 50 – I will say that each character’s true potential doesn’t really unlock until you can access their full move kit. Things will improve around level 20-25, but a character at max 50 with access to all abilities will be the most fun. And frankly, they are all fun if you ask me. It might seem like a good grade to hit but it goes pretty fast and the game also does quad XP for a month from today so it should be really easy to level up most of the characters so you don’t feel late.

Gear Score 150 – Gearscore is… another story. The maximum is 150, but be aware that you shouldn’t waste resources upgrading anything until you hit gear that drops to 130. This will increase to 140, then your major artifact will give you another 10 powers. to hit 150. There isn’t really a great way to get a Gear Score, as it will just take some time to complete various activities. Hives can be the best. Setting your difficulty higher to have +5 or +10 enemies above your potency will result in higher drops to help you go faster.

Combat passes – The way the battle is played out in Avengers is that every character has one. You can buy them for each character and the good news is that they never expire. The bad news is that you can only level them up through Daily and Weekly Challenges. They contain cosmetics for each hero that are not needed, and the best skins like those from the MCU will be sold directly in the microtransaction store.

These are, in a way, the “basics”. I don’t see the need to start delving into really ultra-deep endgame stuff at this point, given that a lot of people are just going to start. The campaign will be enough to tide you over for a while, what if you want to get by after that? Well, you can, and that’s a whole different thing. Curious to see what everyone thinks, given how contemptuous many have been towards the game so far. But now that it’s free on Game Pass? It can change some tunes.

Infinite halo will continue the story of Master Chief and see him return to one of the Haloiconic holder rings. Fans have seen very little of the campaign since the game’s reveal, but the developers at 343 Industries have been very willing to share details here and there ahead of the game’s release. So far, it has been revealed that the ring of the game will feature a more open design that will allow players to traverse it with a variety of ways to get to mission objectives and explore. This includes many vehicles that series veterans have come to expect, while Infinite halo will also introduce new vehicles.

As for Infinite halothe actual story of, players got only a few clues as to what to expect. Infinite haloThe Gamescom trailer appears to confirm that Master Chief will be without Cortana again, and might even still try to track her down or arrest her after the events of Halo 5. Fans also know that Master Chief will face off against a new Brute clan known as the Banished, led by a new character named Escharum. Halo Infinite multiplayer

Until there, Infinite haloThe pre-release marketing and press mainly focused on its multiplayer mode. This makes sense, because this is where most of the playing time of any Halo the title is spent, and Infinite halo seems to be going big to help spearhead the triple threat for Xbox Game Pass this fall. A big part of this is that the multiplayer mode for Halo Infinite will actually be free-to-play, a first for the series.

Not only will it help even non-subscribers to experience the game and possibly purchase the game or an Xbox Game Pass membership to experience the campaign. The game will probably help too Infinite halo stay competitive in a genre that has become dominated by free titles like Apex Legends and Fortnite. However, the developers said that Infinite halo won’t chase game modes like a battle royale, and instead focus on the core Halo game modes at the moment.

The free-to-play nature of multiplayer has also led it to come up with alternative monetization methods in the form of seasonal battle passes. Battle Passes have become extremely popular in recent years as a way for live service games to continually increase revenue, while also providing new themed events and cosmetic content for players to earn. Infinite halo, however, takes a somewhat unique approach in a way that many industry players have come out largely in favor of.

This is due to the fact Infinite haloBattle Passes from, will not only be able to be purchased after the season ends, but can also be upgraded to unlock its content once the season is over. This has been praised industry-wide for avoiding the FOMO elements that many gamers experience with battle passes, and has led to gaming communities like Apex Legends calling for a similar change to their games.

Infinite halo releases December 8, 2021 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X / S. The game will be available for purchase for the standard price of $ 60 or will be available on all platforms on day one through Xbox Game Pass. Infinite haloMultiplayer will be completely free to play, but there are a few notable features that Infinite halo will be missing when released.

The most important of these is the delayed campaign cooperative. In the beginning Infinite halo, 343 Industries has expressed its commitment to in-game cooperation as well as the local split screen. However, it was announced that while the feature is due out in a few months of Infinite halo, it will not be available immediately.

Another big omission that will be present at launch is the iconic Halo forging mode. Forge Mode allows players to create custom maps and game modes using Halothe core assets of and has become a very large part of the franchise over the years. The announcement led to the competing multiplayer shooter Splitgate confirming his own Forge mode that would arrive before Infinite halo‘s, but the team at 343 Industries has yet to provide details on what Forge Mode will look like when it finally arrives.

A smaller feature that will be missing at launch is Multiplayer Assassinations, which are flashy kills that players perform by mingling enemies from behind. The delay was a disappointment to fans as the assassinations have been an exciting staple in Halo multiplayer for a while now, but they’re little more than cosmetic. Xbox Game Pass updated with four new games, including day one release

By Game pass No Comments

Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate have been updated with four new games for Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PC. Out of the four games, each of them has been added to the PC version of subscription services. Meanwhile, console and cloud users can only enjoy three of the four games. Luckily for those on console and PC, the most notable addition, the all-new version just released today, is one of those three games.

If you haven’t started Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you’ll be happy to hear that four games have been added, including Sable from developer Shedworks and publisher Raw Fury. In addition to Sable, Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate have been updated with the following three games: Subnautica: below zero, Lost words: beyond the page, and Tainted Grail: Conquest.

Below, you can learn more about the four new games and check out a trailer for each game:

Sable: “Embark on a unique and unforgettable journey and guide Sable through her gliding flight; a rite of passage that will take her through vast deserts and fascinating landscapes, topped with remains of spaceships and ancient wonders.”

Subnautica: below zero: “Immerse yourself in an icy underwater adventure on an alien planet. Below zero takes place two years after the original Subnautica. Return to planet 4546B to uncover the truth behind a deadly cover-up. Survive by building habitats, crafting tools, and diving deeper into the world of Subnautic. “

Tainted Grail: Conquest: “A unique, infinitely replayable, story-based hybrid between a deck-building Roguelike and an RPG game. Explore the ever-changing maps, battle deadly enemies, and find out what happened to the Cursed Isle of Avalon. “

Lost words: beyond the page: “An atmospheric narrative adventure written by Rhianna Pratchett. Set between the pages of a journal and a fantasy story where you run over words and use them to interact with the world around you.”

As always, each game is also now available for purchase at a 20% discount, and that will remain the case for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, as long as each game remains in the subscription service. That said, it’s unclear how long any of these games will last.

Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate – available for $ 10 and $ 15 per month respectively – are available through PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. For more details on all things Xbox, click here.
